According to The Sun, Leeds United are considering re-signing Kalvin Phillips if the team is promoted back to the Premier League this season.
The tabloid said on its website on Saturday (30 March) that the Whites want to give the England international a chance to revive his career and believe Manchester City will accept a deal of around £30 million.
It added the Citizens’ desire in West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta could be a stumbling problem, as they want to use Phillips as a makeweight to sign the Brazilian from the Hammers, where the 28-year-old midfielder is presently on loan.
Leeds United’s return might save Kalvin Phillips’ career.
It is not impossible that Leeds might sign Phillips on a permanent basis following his catastrophic 18-month spell.
Since joining the Premier League champions for £42 million, the midfielder has played little football, lost his position in England’s squad, and struggled on loan at West Ham.
Although Manchester City’s interest in Paqueta may influence what happens with Phillips this summer, it appears highly unlikely that the Hammers will want to sign him permanently.
That means a return to Elland Road could be the best way for the Englishman to rescue his top-flight career, but only if Daniel Farke’s team wins promotion this season.
It’s been a difficult time for him recently, and you’d think he’d leap at the opportunity to return to West Yorkshire and play in front of the supporters that have backed him for so many years.
