According to Mike McGrath, Leeds United are close to signing Sheffield United defender Jayden Bogle.
On July 13, a Telegraph journalist stated via X that the Whites are interested in reinforcing Daniel Farke’s team with the 23-year-old full back.
Since the end of last season, the German has seen Connor Roberts return to Burnley at the end of his loan spell and Archie Gray moved to Tottenham, reducing his options at the position.
Jamie Shackleton also departed Elland Road after his contract expired, and he has headed in the opposite direction of Bogle’s possible move since joining with the Blades.
Jamie Shackleton left Leeds United to sign at Bramall Lane.
Bogle was a regular for Sheffield United in the previous Premier League season, appearing 34 times and scoring three goals.
It’s possible that Shackleton’s emergence in Chris Wilder’s team has paved the way for the English to leave, so if Farke sees him as a fixture in his starting lineup next season, he may prove to be an upgrade.
Ultimately, it is unlikely to compensate for the loss of teenage star Gray, who spent the majority of the season at right-back after succeeding in his preferred midfield position.
However, the loan signing of Bournemouth midfielder Joe Rothwell would be another important step in restocking a team that has seen a number of players leave since Leeds United’s play-off final defeat to Southampton relegated them to the Championship for another year.
Further high-profile departures are still expected, with widespread top-flight interest in star winger Crysencio Summerville and reports of plans to move Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford [Daily Mail, 1 July].
So Farke and his recruitment department will need to follow up Bogle’s signing with more signings if they are to improve next season and return to the Premier League.
