According to Florian Plettenberg, Leeds United would prefer to recruit Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha this summer over Hoffenheim.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist wrote on his personal X account (22 May) that the 26-year-old might depart the Belgian club following a “top season,” with a move worth between £2.1 and £2.5 million.
Torunarigha is in his final year of his contract and was a target for Stuttgart last summer, but the move fell through, and he is now “one to watch” during the summer transfer window.
“News Torunarigha | One year left on his contract after a top season of the 26 y/o center-back from Gent,” the journalist wrote.
‘A summer transfer is possible at a price valuation of approximately €2.5-3 million (£2.1-2.5 million). Stuttgart was interested in the new Nigerian international this summer to replace Zagadou, who was injured.
“Keen on him now: Hoffenheim and Leeds United!” “One to watch…”
Are Leeds United ready for life without Joe Rodon and Liam Cooper?
This summer is expected to be a busy one at Elland Road, with several players, including captain Liam Cooper, set to leave at the end of their contracts.
That would immediately free up a spot in the team for a new central defender, but Charlie Cresswell is also looking to move elsewhere, and Joe Rodon’s loan is set to expire after the playoff final.
Rodon’s future is uncertain, and Torunarigha, who has been capped once by Nigeria and represented Germany at the youth level, might step in with experience.
It would undoubtedly be a cost-effective acquisition, as Plettenberg is known for his reliability in transfers.
Leeds are looking ahead for next season, and a new defender will be necessary regardless of which league they play in, so it’s encouraging to see that moves are already in the works.
