Max Wober, a Leeds United defender, suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Austria, according to Kronen Zeitung.
On Monday (9 September), the Austrian newspaper announced on their website that Wober, 26, had to miss his country’s Nations League defeat to Norway due to “knee problems”.
Wober played 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Friday (6 September), but was an unused substitute in Norway’s 2-1 defeat against Erling Haaland.
Will Wober be fit to play for Leeds United against Burnley on Saturday?
The Elland Road faithful have only seen Wober once this season, in a 3-0 EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough, so this news will likely unfaze many fans.
Clean sheets from a defensive partnership of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk have kept the Austrian out of Daniel Farke’s starting lineup in the Championship, and the German manager will undoubtedly start the same two players against Burnley.
However, Leeds lacks depth at centre-back, with just Wober available in case the starting two are injured.
Although Ethan Ampadu spent the majority of games at centre back, it appears he is better suited to midfield, suggesting Farke could be one injury away from an early-season derailment.
The severity of Wober’s knee injury is uncertain, but he might be a great weapon for Leeds in the remaining 42 games of the season, especially given his performance against Bundesliga defenders on international service.
