Nottingham Forest are looking to acquire a new striker before the transfer market ends in early February, and the clock is ticking.
Evangelos Marinakis wants a new forward for Forest. Chris Wood is currently scoring goals for the team, with Taiwo Awoniyi providing backup off the bench.
Wood has praised Awoniyi, but his performance is a concern. There is a sense that if anything happens to Wood, European football could be troublesome for Forest.
Matheus Cunha has been associated to Forest. He’s hesitating on a new contract with Wolves, and with the club in severe danger of relegation, they may struggle to keep him before the transfer window shuts.
Yoane Wissa is another Forest target. He has now spoken out about the links between him and a relocation to the City Ground, and he has provided a fascinating reaction.
Yoane Wissa Breaks Silence on Nottingham Forest Links
The 28-year-old is a talented player who has 11 goals in the Premier League this season. Following the departure of Ivan Toney, he has stepped up as the number one striker, and his form is good.
Jamie Redknapp believes Wissa will cost £40 million this month. That would presumably knock Forest out of the running, but it appears that the striker is aware of the interest.
He told Canal + Sport Africa: “There is an interest, there is an interest. Possible transfer in progress, I cannot say. But it is true that there has been interest since the summer.
“They’re having a great season, and I’m keeping up my momentum. But it is true that I am currently focused on Brentford, and we will see what happens.
Wissa would make an excellent Forest signing.
Although he’d cost a lot of money, Wissa would be excellent for Forest. He can operate anywhere throughout the front third of the pitch and he’d have no obligation to settle in at the club.
However, signing him is unlikely to occur this month. Although he has remained cautious in this interview, it appears that Forest will not spend £40 million to sign a 28-year-old.
Wissa’s current contract will expire in the summer, leaving him just one year remaining. As a result, this is something Forest should consider if they beat Brentford to a European spot at the conclusion of the season.
Forest is expected to ramp things up in the coming days as things come to an end. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see whether the Reds make one final push to sign Wissa before the window closes.
