Former Everton manager Keith Wyness has stated that Nuno Espirito Santo is not at Nottingham Forest for a “two or three-year project”.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, suggested chairman Evangelos Marinakis could sack the 50-year-old if Forest are relegated.
Espirito Santo was appointed at the City Ground in December 2023, following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, with the club placed 17th in the standings.
Cooper had only won one of his final 13 Premier League games at the club, although Forest eventually pulled six points clear of the relegation zone under Espirito Santo.
This is despite the club being fined four points for violating the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Espirito Santo faces sack threat from ‘demanding’ Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis, according to Wyness.
Espirito Santo has already received support with the additions of Elliot Anderson and Carlos Miguel this summer, with both players set to appear in the first team.
Wyness told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast, “Marinakis doesn’t take fools lightly.”
“He wants results immediately.
“He will definitely be judged this season. If it’s not a relegation struggle, Marinakis will let him stay and try to rebuild.
“However, it’s season by season. He’s a demanding owner, but he provides all of the resources you need, so it’s fair.
“Nuno will know. He will not be thinking about a two- or three-year endeavor; instead, he will be living seasonally.
“Sometimes, even week to week. That is the drama of the Premier League, which is why we all like it so much.”
