Keith Wyness, Everton’s previous manager, has stated that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group will be in “no rush” to complete large-scale takeovers and establish a multi-club network.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now operates a football consultancy advising elite teams, stated the US group will focus on increasing the value of their existing assets.

FSG appeared to be on track to buy French club Bordeaux, but the deal fell through due to a stumbling block in discussions.

The 2008-09 Ligue 1 winners stated in a statement (16 July) that FSG was concerned about future stadium maintenance expenditures, as well as overall uncertainty about the country’s football financial stability.

Liverpool was purchased by US investors in 2010, and they have since won the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

Wyness commended FSG as one of the “best-in-class” football ownership groups.

He told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast: “The long-term goal for FSG is rather straightforward: they want to increase the value of their assets by properly managing them.

“That’s what they’ve done; they’ve proven themselves to be excellent custodians.”

“Look at the sum they paid for Liverpool and what it’s worth now; it’s incredible.

“They won’t be rushing to take control at another team. They’re already nicely distributed among other sports.

“Not all of the eggs are in the same basket.

“They are among the best at what they do. It’s more of a race for quality, which is what they’re doing.”
