Cyriel Dessers was constantly linked with a move away from Rangers throughout the winter transfer window.
Cagliari was one of the teams vying to sign the 30-year-old from the Gers before the 3 February deadline (Corriere Dello Sport, 27 January).
Given his paucity of playing time at Ibrox this season, it’s not surprise that Dessers has been linked with another move.
Cyriel Dessers agent makes ‘interesting’ transfer allegation.
Keith Jackson finds it “interesting” that the Bears only wanted to sell Dessers in the middle of the season.
Stijn Francis, the former Cremonese centre-forward’s agent, recently told Sporza, via voetbalnieuws, that there were 10 bids on the table for him to leave Ibrox on loan, but the Glasgow club only wanted a permanent deal.
Speaking on Hotline Live (5 February), Jackson stated: “The agent believes there were a substantial number of teams from Europe and outside who were looking to get a loan move done for Dessers and had approached him about the potential of having a talk about it.
“There was no appetite for a loan transaction. What’s intriguing is that the agent claims Rangers simply wanted to sell. When you think about it logically, what did they gain by letting him go on loan?”
Rangers make the correct decision by keeping Cyriel Dessers.
Hamza Igamane is the current number one, and fans will be thrilled to see their star forward recognized on the international level, as Walid Regragui may call him up for Morocco in March.
Following some strong performances in recent months, the 22-year-old has cemented his position as Rangers’ first-choice number nine.
Dessers has regained his footing, however, and Philippe Clement has correctly placed his trust in the 30-year-old in recent games.
Danilo is the other striker available to the Belgian boss, and he was ahead of the former Cremonese star before being injured.
The Brazilian striker’s physical difficulties have been bothersome, and it is unclear whether he will be able to return to the team once he is fit.
As a result, given Danilo’s absence and Igamane’s decline in play, the Bears were clearly correct in sticking with Dessers until the end of the season.
The Gers will meet Queen’s Park at Ibrox on Sunday (9 February) in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.
In the fourth round of the competition, the Nigerian ace scored three goals in a 5-0 victory over Fraserburgh, and he may be able to repeat those feats.
