Rangers are looking forward to better days as they wait for 49ers Enterprises to finalize their purchase of the club.
The Gers have had a dismal season, sitting 13 points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
However, since Barry Ferguson came over as temporary manager, Glasgow’s form has improved.
Ferguson and his side have had a memorable week, beginning with a Europa League triumph against Fenerbahce on Thursday (13 March) and ending with a win over Celtic in the Old Firm Derby.
49ers confront major Rangers choice.
Ferguson was hired as Rangers’ interim manager till the end of the season with the hopes of bringing in someone who understands the expectations at Ibrox.
Meanwhile, the new prospective owners, Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe, have been thinking about who they may approach when seeking for a new manager for next season.
Furthermore, increased expenditure would imply the appointment of a manager with extensive experience and the ability to bring success to Ibrox.
However, with Ferguson having lost only one of his five matches in charge, some are beginning to wonder if Rangers’ answers to success lie closer to home.
Keith Jackson predicted another issue for Cavenagh and Marathe, writing in the Daily Record: “So when the team of lawyers acting for Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe finally dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s on the deal to take over the club, the new owners will face a massive question about what to do with this force of nature who has ended up calling the shots from the dugout.”
Ferguson stakes his claim for Rangers’ managerial position.
Given Ferguson’s lack of experience at a high level, it’s not a major surprise that not everyone anticipated the boss to strike the ground running on his arrival at Ibrox.
The hiring appeared to be more about changing the players’ mindsets and raising morale to get through the conclusion of the season.
However, Ferguson’s record thus far is remarkable, and he is also beating very good teams and returning the Gers to their proper levels by just competing.
With that in mind, Ferguson is undoubtedly demonstrating his talent to a large number of people, which may lead to some difficult decisions.
It’s still early, and it’s unclear whether the 47-year-old will be able to manage the scope of the 49ers’ project.
That being said, given how well he’s performed thus far, it wouldn’t be surprising if the new prospective owners were focusing their energies elsewhere for the time being in the hopes that this one will resolve itself by the end of the season.
