Journo discusses Leeds’ pursuit of Championship midfielder

Graeme Bailey has said that he would be “surprised” if Callum O’Hare joins Leeds United this summer.

TEAMtalk reported on June 13 that the Whites were prepared to compete with Southampton and Burnley for the 26-year-old midfielder, who is available on a free transfer.

Journalist Bailey has no doubts about O’Hare’s abilities, but he is not aware of any interest from Elland Road.

“Callum O’Hare is not a name I’ve heard very much in recent months, so I’d be shocked. But he’s a good player for free,” Bailey told Leeds United News (21 June).

What might Callum O’Hare add to Leeds United?

The West Yorkshire club nearly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League last season, falling 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

There were times when Daniel Farke’s team appeared to be in command of the league, frequently hovering around the automatic promotion spots.

However, when it came to crunch time, it was clearly not meant to be.

Last season, O’Hare helped guide Coventry to a top-10 finish after their incredible journey to the playoff final in 2022/23.

Although they were unable to reproduce their league playoff finish, the midfielder’s consistency and great eye for a pass were critical to Coventry’s success.

In 2023/24, O’Hare appeared in 36 games across all competitions and scored 14 goals.

The midfielder would provide the Whites with another excellent attacking option, allowing Leeds to begin filling the void left by the probable departure of Crysencio Summerville this summer [Fabrizio Romano, 18 June].

Willy Gnonto’s future is also uncertain, as a number of clubs have been after his transfer [Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport, 19 June] since the start of last season, so adding someone of O’Hare’s proven skill would surely make sense.
