Graham Smyth has confessed that he believes Burnley will “jump” at selling Connor Roberts to Leeds United for a low amount this summer.
The Welsh international spent the second half of the Championship season on loan with Daniel Farke’s team at Elland Road, impressing as the Whites barely missed out on promotion back to the Premier League.
According to reports [The Athletic, 13 June], Leeds are interested in re-signing the 28-year-old, and Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth believes that both Roberts and Burnley are eager to work out a deal.
Smyth wrote on X on Friday (5 July): “I dare bet he’d jump at it. I also believe Burnley would accept any offer, no matter how small.
“They’re properly protected there now. He’d be an excellent choice, but is he a priority? “The jury is out.”
Will Connor Roberts return to Leeds United and leave Burnley in the summer transfer window?
Leeds United might use a new right back this summer, especially after Archie Gray’s big-money move to Tottenham was announced earlier in the transfer season.
The teenager may be a midfielder by trade, but he spent the entirety of last season on the right side of Daniel Farke’s backline and rarely got to play in his preferred position in the Championship.
Sam Byram has signed to a new contract at Elland Road, and while he is anticipated to remain in charge throughout the summer transfer window, he has previously struggled with injury throughout his career.
Roberts appeared to be an instant success in the changing room and rapidly won over the supporters upon his arrival in January, making him the ideal candidate to slot in this summer, especially if Burnley are willing to sell.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds will match their Championship rival’s asking price, but given Roberts’ previous success in this league, this appears to be a deal worth spending a little quantity of money on this summer.
