Jorge Mendes and Evangelos Marinakis make claims amid Nuno Nottingham Forest turmoil

Latest Nottingham Forest news, as speculation concerning Reds head coach Nuno Espirito Santo continues.

According to reports, owner Evangelos Marinakis has “asked” super agent Jorge Mendes to “recommend” potential Nottingham Forest head coaches.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s future has been the subject of conjecture since the Reds clinched Premier League safety last Sunday. The Portuguese footballer has been connected with Bayern Munich, and clubs in his home country and Spain are thought to be keeping an eye on him.

Forest, meantime, has been linked to other managers. Rumours have circulated that the club is interested in former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano.

According to Greek media reports, Marinakis is currently looking for a new coach. According to Sportime, Marinakis has sought the assistance of Mendes, who also represents Nuno, since he “wants something else” with a change in direction in the dugout.

The speculation surrounding Nuno’s future stems from a strange remark he made during last Friday’s pre-match press conference. When asked if he intended to be part of Marinakis’ huge vision for the club, he simply said, “I’m here now.”

Nuno succeeded Steve Cooper as manager last December and guided the Reds to top-flight safety despite a number of hurdles. He had to deal with a point deduction, officiating controversy, and several players missing due to injuries and Africa Cup of Nations duty.

He acknowledged it as the most difficult season of his managerial career. After last weekend’s triumph against Burnley, he said: “When you ask me whether it was hard, it was hard because we didn’t have the opportunity to create what is most important to me in football – the link. Now we can tell that the players are trusting us and each other.

“Clearly the most hardest. We now need to rest. Everyone needs to rest because it was quite difficult. The players, staff, and supporters need to rest. “Now is the time to celebrate – truly celebrate.”
