It’s no news that Nottingham Forest are close to signing Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.
The Reds are expected to sign a 6ft 7in monster in the coming days, with the deal gaining momentum.
Miguel played for Corinthians against Sao Paulo on Sunday and made a stunning save in the 2-2 draw.
Now it appears that Forest has activated the £3.4 million release clause in his contract, and things are getting closer.
Last night, John Percy provided an update on X, indicating that things are moving forward, and he revealed Forest’s feelings about the arrangement.
John Percy explains how Forest feels about the Carlos Miguel trade.
On the surface, this appears to be a good deal for Forest, who are in need of a new goalkeeper.
Matz Sels accomplished an excellent job after signing in January, but at 32 years old, he is not a player for the future.
Matt Turner has been linked with a move away from Nottingham Forest, while Odysseas Vlachodimos is also expected to go.
Last night, Percy spoke to X about how Forest are feeling ahead of signing Miguel, claiming the deal is close.
He wrote: “#nffc are close to making their first signing of the summer – Corinthians goalkeeper Carlos Miguel is expected to fly in for a medical later this week ahead of a £3.4 million transfer.” Forest has exercised Miguel’s release clause and sees the agreement as extremely excellent business.”
Miguel has only made 25 appearances for Corinthians, so this feels like a significant move for the gigantic goalie.
Miguel and Sels will enjoy the battle for Forest’s number one slot.
It would be unfair to dismiss Sels outright given his performances between the posts for Forest last season.
However, Miguel appears to check a lot of boxes, and he certainly has exceptional reflexes, much like Brice Samba.
At 25, he is the younger goalkeeper that Forest had been looking for, and it’s interesting that the club sees this as a compelling offer.
Murillo was the last player to sign from Corinthians, and after coming for £10 million, Forest now values him at £70 million.
Miguel is signing for less than £4 million, and if he performs well, Forest will believe he can generate a considerable return.
Nuno Espirito Santo has moved rapidly to solidify his goalkeeping options, which is not surprising.
Sels is reliable enough, but the sooner Turner and Vlachodimos are moved on, the better.
