According to John McGarry, protests among the Ibrox crowd could hurt Rangers’ home form.
The Union Bears fan base has made their feelings known in the last two matches, with walkouts and banners demanding a change in leadership in Govan.
This has not yet hampered Philippe Clement’s team, which won 3-0 against Aberdeen on Wednesday night (16 December), but McGarry feels it will soon.
In his column for the Scottish Daily Mail (page 71), he wrote: “The challenge to Govan’s consistency is no longer limited to other Premiership teams. It lurks in rumblings of discontent and protests in the stands. Players are merely humans. “They are not immune to negativity.”
Rangers fans’ dissatisfaction could hurt Ibrox performance.
It is safe to say that the Light Blues’ supporters have had enough of what they have seen from their team and its leadership in recent months.
There has been a lot of discontent in the boardroom in Govan, and CEO Patrick Stewart has come under criticism almost quickly.
This hasn’t been helped by a terrible season on the pitch under Clement, with results at Ibrox mainly positive despite being 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Regardless, supporters are still dissatisfied with the situation and have conducted a number of protests to demonstrate this to the Govan administration.
This could eventually prove to be a negative aspect that takes its toll on the Gers in the following weeks, particularly with a match against Manchester United approaching.
Clement and his team need the fans’ backing at Ibrox, but until anything changes, supporters may continue to express their dissatisfaction.
