Joel Piroe shares Premier League transfer admission in Leeds United’s promotion decision

Joel Piroe has claimed that he rejected down Premier League offers to join Leeds United in the Championship during the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman joined Elland Road from Swansea City this summer for an estimated £12 million [Wales Online, 24 August], choosing Daniel Farke’s side over a host of potential top-flight suitors.

Piroe has scored 10 goals and provided one assist in 29 Championship games for the Whites this season, as Farke’s side stands third in the table, and he is confident Leeds can earn promotion this season.

As reported by Voetbalzone on Wednesday (7 February), he stated: “At Leeds, I can genuinely win my spot, therefore I’ll be there later if we win promotion to the Premier League.

“Last summer, I already had alternatives in that tournament, but sometimes you choose a club that needs to fight for relegation or you are taken as a 19th man.

“Leeds gives me confidence, and I have to say that our selection is certainly Premier League-worthy. I believe in the mission. Whether it is outright promotion or through the play-offs, I believe we are capable of achieving it.

“Of course, Leicester City and Southampton are performing well, and Ipswich Town has made a solid start, but the season is still lengthy. I am confident that our squad is capable of competing in the Premier League.

Joel Piroe is certain Daniel Farke will lead Leeds United to the Premier League.

It says volumes about the atmosphere Farke has built at Leeds United this season that players like Piroe would want to join the ranks at Elland Road rather than move to the Premier League.

Players see the German initiative as a near-certainty for promotion to the Premier League, with Piroe and many others expecting to play in the 2024/25 season.

Piroe and Georginio Rutter have created an effective strike tandem for Leeds United at Elland Road.
Piroe hasn’t been a regular for the Whites in recent weeks, with Patrick Bamford’s superb performances keeping the Dutchman on the bench; but, he has adapted to his number 10 role, giving Leeds a new dimension in attack.

Between now and the conclusion of the season, the former Swansea City player might play a significant role in Leeds’ promotion campaign. His goals could be significant, but it’s apparent he wants to earn promotion this season.
