When asked about his “secret conversations” with Leeds United fans about promotion, Jim White remained tight-lipped.
White told Simon Jordan on talkSPORT (28 January, 11:08am) that he has spoken with several United supporters about his confidence in the club’s promotion chances.
Jordan and White discussed the Peacocks’ 0-0 draw with promotion rivals Burnley on Monday, arguing that despite the continual pressure at Elland Road, Daniel Farke’s side is on track for the top level.
Jordan went on: “[They] are doing a great job because they’re managed under huge pressure; Daniel Farke, with the expectation of Leeds United to get back to the Premier League.”
“Very much so, I think they will [win promotion]” , White stated, “I have secret conversations with a variety of people, who support Leeds United, and they all tell me…”
“I think Leeds still look good for it, and I’d take them to do it – I think Leeds will finish strongly, and will get there in the end.”
Leeds United boost promotion claims with Burnley’s stalemate.
Although Monday’s match at Turf Moor was not visually appealing, with Daniel James taking the only attempt on goal in the 89th minute, the Whites can take away some positives.
A draw and a clean sheet in perhaps their most difficult remaining game of the season is not to be taken lightly, as it moves the Peacocks three points clear of third place with the league’s best goal differential.
Sheffield United and Sunderland’s home losses and draws against Hull City and Plymouth Argyle in this round of matches meant that, although avoiding defeat, they had a successful week.
As things stand, the Peacocks are still in prime position to make their Premier League return at the second time of asking, with next month’s trip to Bramall Lane shaping up to be the biggest of the season.
Burnley’s impregnable home record remains undented now that the league’s best team have come and gone, but with the Whites still sitting pretty, it’s they, not the Clarets or Blades, who are the team to beat.
