Jamie Carragher has taken a cheeky dig at Rangers following one of the most shocking results in Scottish football history.
Rangers were eliminated from the Scottish Cup after an ugly 1-0 defeat at home to second-tier club Queen’s Park on Sunday, February 9.
Sebastian Drozd’s second-half goal helped the Championship team win at Ibrox, while James Tavernier’s missed penalty late in the game added to the Light Blues’ humiliation.
The result is so embarrassing for Philippe Clement’s team that it became a topic of conversation on Carragher and Scholes’ show, The Overlap.
Jamie Carragher believes Rangers are’so terrible’
Rangers were not on the topic until Carragher mentioned them during a talk with Celtic fan Quinny prior of the Hoops’ UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
The Liverpool legend first asked Quinny if he believes Celtic’s achievements in Scotland are undervalued since the Light Blues are “so bad”.
“Does anything get taken away as an achievement at Celtic because Rangers are so bad?” Carragher asked on The Overlap (February 11).
He then shifted his focus to Rangers’ humiliating defeat at Queen’s Park, asking the Celtic supporter if he thought it was one of the most shocking moments in Scottish football history.
“You must have enjoyed it yesterday, right? “Is that one of the biggest shocks in Scottish football history?” the pundit wondered.
Philippe Clement clings on at Ibrox
Many fans and analysts expected the loss to Queen’s Park to be the final nail in the coffin for Clement, who has been under fire from the beginning of the season.
However, more than 24 hours have passed since what Carragher predicted may be the biggest shock in Scottish football, and Clement is still in charge at Ibrox.
While the Belgian strategist has had limited resources in Govan this season, he has been responsible for many of the Rangers’ troubles.
Michael Stewart was particularly critical of the 50-year-old substitutes against Queen’s Park, calling the decision to remove Bailey Rice at half-time “deplorable”.
The former Scotland player has also issued an ultimatum to Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart to fire Clement in order to prevent the former Monaco manager from becoming “untouchable” in Glasgow.
Clement, on the other hand, is anticipated to be in the dugout when the Gers return to Premier League play against Hearts away on Sunday, February 16.
