James Pearce has intimated that a key Liverpool player may make a decision on his future ‘very, very soon’ as three contract sagas play out.
Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all just six months away from the end of their respective contracts at Liverpool, with Real Madrid rejecting an offer for the latter earlier this week.
The Champions League holders are likely to put the Reds’ determination to the test once more in their pursuit of the 26-year-old (Paul Joyce), and it appears that this long-running soap opera may finally be coming to an end, either way.
Pearce: Trent to decide on his future ‘very, very soon’
Trent’s future was inevitably a major talking point on the latest episode of The Athletic’s Walk On podcast, with Pearce sharing what he currently knows about the Liverpool right-back’s situation as the clock ticks towards the end of his contract.
The journalist outlined: “I think the information I have is that there isn’t a definitive decision yet on his future. Of course, if that is the case, if he hasn’t, then he’s going to have to make it very, very soon.”
The Trent drama might finally be coming to a conclusion.
Most Liverpool fans certainly want Trent to stay, but we fear that some may have already accepted his departure for Real Madrid and would just welcome an end to the drama after so many months of ‘will he or won’t he’.
The longer it goes on, the more it will obviously be linked to an evaluation of his on-field performances, which have been mainly superb this season as the 26-year-old has maintained his focus amongst the constant speculation about his future.
Although the Reds already have a quality replacement in Conor Bradley to step in if our vice-captain leaves, the England international would be a difficult act to follow, given his unparalleled passing abilities.
If Liverpool were to announce in the coming weeks that Trent has signed a new contract and passed down the possibility to join Real Madrid, imagine the boost that would offer to the fan support as Arne Slot’s team pursues major trophies this season.
With Pearce saying that a decision on the right-back’s future is expected soon, we appear to be on the verge of clarification. Fingers crossed for the outcome that Reds fans crave.
