James Garner admits to Everton’s FFP appeal amid an update on the Nottingham Forest hearing

Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as the former Reds loanee anxiously awaits the outcome of Everton’s appeal.

James Garner, Nottingham Forest’s promotion hero, reveals he is concerned about the FFP issues surrounding his new team. Garner was on loan at Forest from Manchester United when the club gained promotion to the Premier League under Steve Cooper, although he later joined Everton.

And, as the Toffees await the decision of an appeal against a 10-point deduction for violating profit and sustainability criteria, Garner confesses it has been on his mind.

Since the club was punished in November, manager Sean Dyche has told his side to go on and focus on retrieving what was lost. However, as the appeal process enters its third week, midfielder Garner confesses it has worried him, despite the team only recently pulling out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Crystal Palace.

“It plays on my mind,” added Garner, who was previously on loan at Nottingham Forest. “Without the 10-point deduction, we would have finished significantly higher in the league table, so I’ll be waiting for that (appeal).

“We just need to keep ourselves above that dotted line, and hopefully when the results of the appeal come back, we are much higher up the table.”

Forest will most likely be paying careful attention to the outcome of Everton’s appeal as they await a hearing with an independent panel after being penalized by the Premier League for violating its profit and sustainability regulations.

The date of Forest’s hearing is expected to be announced this week, and The Independent understands that the Reds will face an independent commission during the first two weeks of March.
