‘I’ve already heard’: Ornstein claims insiders at Liverpool have told him what they want during the summer window

With little over two weeks left in the season, Liverpool are preparing for what appears to be a busy summer.

The Reds are about to announce that Arne Slot has been chosen to continue Jurgen Klopp’s remarkable legacy at the club.

Klopp has improved his team in recent years, so the Liverpool squad is well-prepared for Slot’s arrival.

However, some significant renovations are required if the Reds are to compete for the Premier League title in 2024/25.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is looking to strengthen at centre-back. Slot will require a new defensive player. And now, another prominent reporter, David Ornstein, has claimed that the Reds will attempt to strengthen another position as well.

What did David Ornstein say about Liverpool?

When it comes to transfer news, Ornstein is always a reliable source. The journalist is well-informed on current events.

This week, he has delivered some good news for Liverpool. Ornstein has grabbed the lead on reports that Mohamed Salah will stay at Anfield for at least another year.

And, for The Athletic FC podcast, he went into greater detail about what he’d been told by club officials.

“I’ve already heard from multiple contacts they’re [Liverpool] looking for a wide player,” Ornstein said.

“Now, I’m not sure if this is in addition to what they currently have. Is it because there has been discussion over Luis Diaz’s future? He has yet to sign a new deal, which is rare for a player who has done so well. He has been connected with moves abroad; we’ll have to wait and see.

“But it is a bit of a bulging in-tray for the new hierarchy.”

    Who might Liverpool target?

So, it appears like Liverpool will be seeking at least two players this summer. In our opinion, they may also benefit from an exceptional holding midfielder, but that is for another day.

Slot will have plenty of forward options available to him. However, when looking at those possibilities, there aren’t many obvious wide males.

Salah is one, though he may have a new position next season. Diaz is the other, and, as Ornstein points out, he has been connected with a move away.
