ITV pundit paints scenario Leeds United supporters ‘won’t tolerate’ following promotion verdict

Ally McCoist has made his forecast for the Championship promotion race and feels Leeds United’s support.

Leeds United will earn promotion back to the Premier League at the second try because their fans will not let Daniel Farke’s side ‘slip down’.

That is the opinion of ITV Sport commentator Ally McCoist, who believes the Whites are the favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League last season, despite their disappointing play-off final performance.

The bookmakers have ranked United as the early favourites to win the Championship title next season, and Rangers veteran McCoist agrees.

McCoist told Football League World: “I’d start with Leeds. I believe they will rebound from the disappointment of the play-off final defeat. They may easily drop off, but I doubt they would since their fans will not allow it. “I can see them being promoted.”

Burnley, Luton Town, and Sheffield United will be among the candidates following their relegation from the Premier League, but McCoist believes only the Hatters will immediately return to the top level.

He stated, “I don’t see Sheffield United coming back up, but I would love to see Luton Town get promoted again.” I know they were demoted, but I thought they were the ones who gave it their all compared to the other clubs that went down last season.

“Burnley and Sheffield United never got going, but whenever teams faced Luton, they knew they were in a game. If they can maintain the same energy and siege mentality that they have at home, I believe they can also advance. I’d want to see them accomplish it; I know they were down last year, but I appreciated the level of performance.

“To be honest, I expect West Brom to provide a more constant challenge next season. They were another squad on the fringe, and I believe they can dig a little deeper and go a step further next season.

“If you were to put me in a corner, I’d say West Brom, Luton and Leeds.”
