‘It’s Going To Be Brutal’: Keith Wyness delivers severe Leeds transfer verdict

Keith Wyness, Everton’s former manager, claims Leeds United are in for a “brutal” summer, with clubs waiting until the “last minute” to negotiate the best offers for their outstanding players.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now heads a football consultancy that advises elite clubs, suggested the Whites may lose “four or five” key players.

Leeds failed to regain promotion to the Premier League last season and are widely anticipated to trade key players such as Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto this summer.

Last month (26 May), Football Insider reported that the Whites must now recoup an astronomical £150 million in player sales.

Daniel Farke’s team will begin their quest for promotion at home against promoted Portsmouth on August 10.

Wyness cautioned fans to prepare for a “chaotic summer” at Elland Road.

He stated on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast: “A mass exodus would be exaggerated, but there could be four or five exits.”

“It’s a large quantity, and it will have a negative impact on the squad’s quality.

“We will need to keep a close eye on Leeds.

“It’ll be a tough window. I expect several clubs to wait until the last minute, which will put a lot of pressure on Leeds.

“These clubs understand that numbers are difficult.

“This is when the chief executive and board members make their money, interacting with the players and their agents.

“It is going to be awful.

“I hope it happens in an orderly fashion and they get the offers they want, but I’ve got a funny feeling it could be a chaotic summer at Elland Road.”
