Daniel Farke will be hesitant to allow Glen Kamara leave, despite Leeds United’s approval of a contract for him to join Rennes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson argued that the management would not have wanted to entertain offers for the midfielder after he joined the club just one year ago.
He went on to say that there could have been a problem behind the scenes at Elland Road that pushed Farke to consent to the agreement.
Robinson stated that Kamara may have begged the board to let him leave, and Farke would not want to maintain a player who did not want to be there.
Kamara appears ready to join Ligue 1 club Rennes after Football Insider revealed they submitted a contract offer to the midfielder on July 10, with the process moving rapidly.
Daniel Farke is reluctant to allow Glen Kamara depart in ‘surprise’ Leeds United transfer twist.
Kamara joined Leeds for £5 million last summer and appeared 42 times last season under Farke, but his departure is anticipated to be confirmed this week.
Robinson, who is well-connected at his former club, is surprised that the deal was completed so fast since it came “out of the blue,” arguing that there must have been a secret cause for his impending departure.
“That’s a deal I wasn’t aware of,” he told Football Insider.
“It happened unexpectedly. He has only recently joined the team, but they have long admired him, and he performed admirably last season.
“Now that Archie Gray has left and the financial position has improved, I’m astonished the club has approved that deal.
“He’s a player who Daniel Farke would have been reluctant to lose, so I’m not sure what happened behind the scenes.
“Whether Kamara has a problem and wants to leave, or whether he has spoken with the club and expressed his want to depart.
“If an agreement is reached, the manager may say, ‘If he wants to go, let him go.'”
“I’m shocked at that one, though, because he’d only just come into the side.”
