The Championship title race is one of the strongest in recent memory, and Leeds United are in the midst of it.
Typically, one team dominates the competition, as seen with Burnley last season, Fulham under Marco Silva a few years ago, and Wolves before that.
But this time, there’s something in the water, as the Premier League’s demoted trio, along with surprise packages Ipswich Town, are going at it like never before.
Daniel Farke’s Leeds United side picked up two encouraging results over the Easter weekend, first a 2-2 draw at Watford and then a win over Hull City on Monday.
Despite Sam Byram’s first goal, Hull responded through Fabio Carvalho and were the better team for much of the game.
But, like they did all season, the Yorkshire team stuck their chest out, dug in, and came away with maximum points.
Alan Brazil said on talkSPORT Breakfast (03/04/24 at 6:15 a.m.) that it’s ‘beyond me’ how Leeds won that game and increased their chances of winning the Championship title.
The ex-Ipswich striker praised his former club’s remarkable last-minute victory over Southampton before expressing his surprise at the Whites.
Leeds United’s victory over Hull City
“The day before, what a day that was, Ipswich’s last kick of the game,” Brazil added.
“Then Leeds, how did Leeds beat Hull is beyond me?!”
Battle for promotion to the Premier League.
You just have the feeling that this promotion race will go down to the last day of the season, and if it does, it will be the end of the championship.
In actuality, given how Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester City, and Southampton have performed this season, it’s a sad shame that at least one of them will miss out.
What’s even better is that two of those teams will be in the play-offs, so the competition will heat up even more once the season is complete.
However, because Ipswich is a recently promoted team, they face less pressure and will be highly dangerous in the final weeks of the season.
