Tony Dorigo says he has spoken with Gretar Steinsson regarding the possibilities of fresh arrivals at Leeds United, where the Icelandic transfer guru is part of the Elland Road recruitment squad.
Steinsson will be hard at work with Leeds’ new-look transfer staff, which is under pressure to make some new additions at Elland Road. The era of a one-man tyranny dictating every play is over.
Following Victor Orta’s departure to Sevilla, Leeds took a new approach, initially bringing in Nick Hammond on a temporary basis. However, Hammond has remained, while Steinsson and Jordan Miles have been added.
A team, rather than a one-man band. They have started well, bringing in Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Ilia Gruev, and other notable additions during Daniel Farke’s tenure as Leeds United manager.
Dorigo explains what Steinsson told him regarding the new Leeds additions.
Former Leeds player Dorigo is as concerned as the rest of the Leeds faithful after the club sold seven players, sent five on loan, and said farewell to many more at the end of their Elland Road contracts.
That is set to continue, with Georginio Rutter’s £40 million move to Brighton imminent. Farke has already revealed that Rutter has said his goodbyes, and Dorigo told The Square Ball what Steinsson told him.
“I chatted to Gretar from the recruitment team. I, like you, said, “Tell me something; give me some information.” He looks at me and says, ‘I’m not going to tell you anything. I said ‘okay’,” Dorigo explained.
“He responded, ‘because we want to keep everything in-house, a trusted circle, we know what we’re doing, we have all of our plans in place, and we’re ready to respond as needed. So I’m telling you nothing at all.
“I thought, that’s fine since we shouldn’t know. But, with the clock ticking, you can’t tell me we’ll get anything significantly cheaper. “It is a gamble,” Dorigo told The Square Ball.
What Daniel Farke expects Leeds United to do over the next 12 days
Obviously, do something. However, Farke commented after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with West Brom, probably with a little disappointed tone due to the lack of action, and openly pushed the 49ers to conduct some business.
Farke stated that he wants four fresh signings by the August 30 deadline. A full-back, a midfielder, and two new attacking recruits are expected to replace Summerville and Rutter, if possible.
“I don’t need 43. I am not a believer in large groups. Not good for unity. We require coverage at full-back, midfield, and two offensive positions. We can’t guarantee it, but four is about what I’d want to see.
