According to Graham Smyth, Leeds United winger Dan James walked directly down the tunnel with the Whites’ physios after the match against Middlesbrough.
Crysencio Summerville, Patrick Bamford, and Wilfried Gnonto scored in a surprising 4-3 triumph at the Riverside on Monday (22 April), propelling Daniel Farke’s team back into the Championship’s automatic promotion places.
However, the victory may have come at a cost, as Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth noticed second-half substitute James trudge directly to the dressing room with an injury that did not “look to good”.
He wrote on X on Monday (22 April): “James is hobbling towards the tunnel with the physios supporting his ribs. Doesn’t look good. The remainder of the team is celebrating at the away end.”
Has Dan James picked up a new Leeds United injury issue in the triumph against Middlesbrough?
Leeds United will need as many of their key talents fit and available as possible between now and the end of the season, especially if they are to make a rapid return to the Premier League under Farke.
While James did not start the match at the Riverside Stadium, the Welsh international has been in outstanding form this season and possesses the ability to turn a game on its head in a single action.
Hopefully, the winger went straight down the tunnel out of caution rather than something more severe, but it’s concerning that the Welsman didn’t feel he could celebrate with his teammates.
Leeds now have plenty of depth in the wide areas, with players like Jaidon Anthony and Mateo Jospeh ready to step up if needed. If James is ruled out for the remaining two games, the Whites still have plenty of depth.
