Tottenham are concerned about Son Heung-min’s performances so far this season, according to a former scout.
Mick Brown, who previously worked as chief scout at Manchester United and Blackburn and is still well-connected at both teams, has told Football Insider that they could seek to replace the forward during the summer transfer window.
So far this season, the 32-year-old has ten goals and eight assists in 32 games in all competitions, but doubts have been raised about his consistency.
It has been reported that his legs have begun to slow down, and that his performances are no longer at the level he has demonstrated in previous seasons.
This comes after former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Mathys Tel is seen as Son’s long-term replacement.
Brown agreed that Tel may be his long-term replacement, but urged they go into the market again to create further competition.
Tottenham are concerned about Son Heung-min’s performances.
Ange Postecoglou’s squad has struggled this season, sliding to 14th in the Premier League league after only wins in 24 games.
Brown, who has extensive experience dealing with top-level players, including over a decade at Manchester United during their most successful period, stated that Son’s dip in performance has been disappointing given his status as the club’s talisman.
“Bergvall has done well for them, Archie Gray has done well, and Kulusevski has done well,” he said.
“But I’ve been unhappy with Son’s performance this season.
“He has just regained some form, but he does not appear to be the same player he once was.
“The manager, the club, and the team have expected him to stand up and carry the flag, but he has not.
“That, I hear, is a source of anxiety for the coaching staff, as he is supposed to be their talisman.
“For the past few years, he’s been so steady and trustworthy; he scores goals, moves them up the pitch, and runs in behind.
“But the goals have begun to dry up, and he appears to have slowed down a little.
“He’s getting on in years as well; what is he, 32?
“So perhaps he’s nearing the end of his career playing the way he has for years, in terms of his ability to make those runs in behind with speed.
“That’s something they’ll have to determine in the summer, and perhaps go and sign somebody to provide some competition, unless that’s what Tel has come in for.”
Daniel Levy is ready to spend big following club-record bid made.
In January, Crystal Palace rejected Tottenham’s late £70 million deal to sign Marc Guehi in a last-ditch attempt to improve their defensive line.
As a result, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that the chairman is now expected to spend heavily this summer because the money are definitely accessible.
Spurs are expected to spend heavily this summer after Ange Postecoglou’s squad was decimated by injuries due to a lack of depth available.
Fans have been putting pressure on Levy to act in recent weeks with protests at their home games, and those are likely to have forced his hand.
