Tottenham are set to continue with Ange Postecoglou despite being eliminated from both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in the span of four days.
According to Mick Brown, a former Spurs and Manchester United scout who is still well-connected at his previous teams, the persistent injury issue has put the manager in an unenviable position.
However, Postecoglou will face enormous criticism if performances do not improve as injured players return to his starting lineup.
Dominic Solanke, Cristian Romero, Wilson Odobert, Radu Dragusin, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, and Timo Werner all missed the 2-1 FA Cup loss to Aston Villa due to injuries.
Brown previously told Football Insider that Daniel Levy is willing to “bite the bullet” and be patient because he understands the challenging situation.
The chairman expects the returning players to have a substantial impact on outcomes, and if the manager fails to turn things around, he will be dismissed.
Daniel Levy ‘will sack’ Ange Postecoglou under one condition.
The majority of Tottenham’s 11 absent players against Villa are anticipated to return before the end of the month or early in March, providing a significant boost to the team.
Brown, who has extensive experience working with top-level managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Ron Atkinson, and David Moyes, warned that if results do not improve after players return, Postecoglou will most certainly be fired.
“They’re putting their eggs in one basket at the moment,” he told Football Insider.
“The thinking is very much ‘we’ll be fine when our injured players return.'”
“But given how long these players have been out of the game, they need to regain match fitness; can they do so while still starting games?
“What happens if they get them all back but continue to lose games?”
“The pressure will only increase, and I believe he will be fired if players return from injury and there is no fast turnaround in form.
“That’s what they anticipate and hope for: players to return and results to improve.
“If it does not happen, the management will take the blame.
“They’ve placed a lot of importance on these injured guys, so they’re ready to stick with him until he gets them back on the team.
“But if they come back and things don’t go well, it doesn’t bode well for Postecoglou’s position.”
Son Heung-min’s fears continue to build following the Aston Villa setback.
In addition to ongoing injury issues and questions about Postecoglou’s future, Son Heung-min’s performances have recently become a hot topic.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham’s personnel have been concerned by his performances this season and may want to sign a replacement in the summer.
The 32-year-old struggled to influence the game once more during the 2-1 loss to Villa, and fans have now began to express their displeasure.
He had the fewest touches of anyone on the pitch at Villa Park (16), and despite his status as club captain, he is now expected to face increased scrutiny.
