Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk has a new danger of re-injury following his recuperation, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The centre-back has been sidelined for three months due to an adductor injury and has not played since the new year, with surgery scheduled for more than a month.
According to the injury expert, he appears to be no closer to returning from injury, and even once he is back in full training, the club will need to handle the situation carefully.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a Physical Therapist and Sports Scientist, said of Struijk:
“It will take a significant amount of time to build him up once he returns to training, which appears to be weeks away at this point.
“The careful build up and bouncing minutes in matches will be critical to prevent setbacks that will keep him out longer.
“However, given his long injury lay-off, setbacks are more likely so it will have to be handled carefully.”
Will Struijk return to action for Leeds United this season?
Struijk’s return this season is dependent on whether or not he experiences any obstacles in his recuperation.
Being away for so long will leave him with a severe lack of match sharpness, and he may need to play a significant number of under-21 games before returning.
In his absence, Ethan Ampadu has stepped up in central defence and worked well with Joe Rodon to help the Whites maintain their lead in the Championship.
