According to sources, Arsenal are contemplating a summer transfer window that may include signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, a Premier League striker, and a Liverpool target.
Last summer, Arsenal went on a massive shopping binge, paying over £200 million to sign Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya, with the last joining on a loan-to-buy basis. Those new signings have propelled Arsenal to the next level, allowing them to once again compete for the Premier League crown.
Mikel Arteta will be anxious to get one over Manchester City, where he was assistant manager from 2016 to 2019, by helping Arsenal finally end their long wait for Premier League glory.
Even if Arsenal finishes the season on a high note, Arteta will press sporting director Edu Gaspar to buy more top players so the Gunners can go to the Champions League knockout stages.
According to astonishing allegations coming from Spain, Arsenal could succeed where Manchester United failed by getting De Jong to England.
Manchester United have long been connected with De Jong, and Erik ten Hag believes the center midfielder is ideal for linking together his defence and offense at Old Trafford.
But De Jong has so far rejected Manchester United’s approaches, and Arsenal will now try to persuade him to leave Barcelona.
Arteta is looking for a top-tier No. 6 who can play at the base of Arsenal’s midfield, allowing Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard to advance. De Jong would be an exceptional option, but he will not come cheap.
Arsenal transfers: sensational triple swoop planned.
Barcelona has established their asking price at €80 million (£69 million). That is obviously a lot of money, but De Jong joining the Emirates would give Arteta one of the most frightening midfields in the world.
De Jong joining Arsenal would also mark the end of Thomas Partey’s time at the club.
Second on Arsenal’s ambitious want list is Willian Pacho, who has recently surfaced as a Liverpool centre-back target.
Arne Slot, the incoming Liverpool manager, has been impressed by the Eintracht Frankfurt star’s consistent performances and has suggested him to Anfield officials.
However, Arsenal scouts are also great fans of the 22-year-old, which might result in an offer from the North London club.
Pacho’s price appears to be dropping, which is a significant benefit for Arsenal. After initially seeking £60 million for the Ecuadorian, Frankfurt is now open to offers around €50 million (£43 million).
Alexander Isak, Newcastle United’s star player, might join De Jong and Pacho at Emirates.
Arsenal has monitored Isak’s progress since his Real Sociedad days. The Sweden international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s deadliest strikers, prompting Arsenal to increase their interest.
While Newcastle will be devastated to lose Isak, they may be forced to trade a key player this summer to alleviate Profit and Sustainability problems. Isak coming to Arsenal for €100 million (£86 million) would suffice, while also providing Arsenal with the quality No 9 they seek.
To fund such transfers, Arsenal would need to sell numerous players, including Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, Aaron Ramsdale, and Eddie Nketiah.
