Nottingham Forest are looking for a variety of players during today’s transfer deadline day drama.
Forest has been here before. Only a year ago, the Reds signed seven players on deadline day, and maybe things won’t be as hectic today.
Forest have been shrewd in the transfer market this summer, and it appears that no more than three players will be signed during today’s drama.
Forest has already been linked with a number of players, including attacker Omar Marmoush, a goalkeeper, and maybe a midfielder.
Nottingham Forest’s interest in James Ward-Prowse is real.
Dharmesh Sheth, Sky Sports’ transfer expert, has reported that Forest are interested in signing the midfielder today.
He remarked on Sky Sports’ Live Transfer Blog: “West Ham have not given up on signing PSG midfielder Carlos Soler.” Many specifics of the proposed deal have been agreed upon. West Ham wants to free up space in their roster. Nottingham Forest is looking at James Ward-Prowse. West Ham are not actively looking to let him go, but they may be receptive to bids.
Ward-Prowse was just signed by the Hammers last summer, but Julen Lopetegui does not appear to like him, as he has only played 16 minutes in the Spaniard’s first two Premier League matches.
Forest will face competition from Southampton for Ward-Prowse, but Sheth believes Forest is currently the best candidate.
Ward-Prowse is a dangerous set-piece specialist who is just two free kicks away from breaking David Beckham’s Premier League record.
Ashley Cole is also a big fan of the midfielder, describing him as’special’ after making his West Ham debut in August 2023.
In addition, Fabrizio Romano has just tweeted on X that Forest have begun talks with West Ham to sign Ward-Prowse before the deadline.
Ward-Prowse would be quality, but he isn’t a priority.
Signing a player with 11 England caps and Ward-Prowse’s set-piece skill is not to be overlooked from a supporter’s standpoint.
Forest fans do not want to be accused of being entitled, and the midfielder is undeniably talented.
However, Forest are in more need of a striker, and if the club only signs one player today, it must be a talisman to strengthen the top end of the pitch.
Ward-Prowse earns £115,000 per week at West Ham, which could be a concern for Forest.
If an initial loan agreement can be reached, it may be a worthwhile transaction to bolster the club’s midfield alternatives.
However, it should not be a priority, and it will be interesting to see what deals pay off for Forest on deadline day.
