Tim Sherwood has defended Daniel Farke following a controversy as Leeds United defeated Sunderland.

The Whites made a comeback against Regis Le Bris’ team in the Championship on Monday (17 February), despite turmoil in the last minutes of the game.

Pascal Struijk’s late victory at Elland Road lifted the roof off the stadium, and everyone joined in the celebration.

Farke was part in the thrilling celebrations against Sunderland and was later given a yellow card, which will result in a touchline ban.

Farke’s celebrations in Leeds United vs Sunderland are understandable.

Farke’s celebration against Sunderland after winning late was understandable, according to Sherwood.

The former manager believes the German head coach would have had to react when Struijk completed the Whites’ comeback.

Mike Dean indicated that the referee followed the regulations by booking Farke, but Sherwood believes the criteria should be overturned.

On Sky Sports News (22 February), the 56-year-old stated: “It’s impossible to stop as a manager.” There is no referee out there that understands the anxiety of standing in that technical area. What it would be like to score a late winner like that. I just think they need to get rid of the rule.”

Leeds to miss Farke vs Sheffield United

The Elland Road faithful will travel to Bramall Lane on Monday (24 February) as Leeds seek to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Sheffield United are second in the Championship, and Farke will undoubtedly need his top players in the starting lineup to secure three points.

The Whites will be confident coming into the game, given they have a strong record versus the Blades in their last three meetings.

However, Chris Wilder’s club is on a roll, having won their last four Championship games and scoring seven goals in the process.

If the Peacocks defeat Sheffield United, they will go five points clear in the Championship and secure their title hopes.

It’s unclear how the German manager’s absence from the dugout will influence the West Yorkshire club, but the players should be professional enough to secure the three points.

The Elland Road faithful will most likely have no problem with Farke’s celebrations, and all they ask from him is automatic promotion this season.
