Arne Slot is a’strong candidate’ to succeed Klopp.
Links to the Dutchman have strengthened this week.
According to rumors, Liverpool’s approach to appointing Arne Slot is’moving fast’ at Anfield and may escalate this week. Last season, the 45-year-old led Feyenoord to a surprise Eredivisie victory before winning the KNVB Cup this year.
Slot has jumped ahead of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, both of whom are unlikely to take the Liverpool post this summer. The Dutchman had previously been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, but talks about his appointment fell through last year.
Romano has disclosed that Slot is regarded as a brilliant manager with the ability to’make extraordinary things’ at the highest level in the Premier League. Speaking through his CaughtOffside column, the Italian journalist stated:
“An crucial update on the Liverpool position to begin with, as Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is now a strong prospect to succeed Jurgen Klopp this summer. He is already regarded as an exceptional manager with a very good style, but he also has the ability to achieve extraordinary results at the highest level imaginable in the Premier League.
“Some outlets have claimed that Slot has been on the radar of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who may also appoint new managers this summer, but I’m only aware of contacts with Liverpool so far. Let’s see whether other clubs enter the race, but Liverpool will undoubtedly be there.”
According to reports, Gary O’Neil has been interviewed for the Liverpool job but is not being considered.
The Athletic’s James Pearce has revealed that Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil is ‘not under consideration’ for the Liverpool job this summer. The 40-year-old has enjoyed an excellent first season in charge of Wolves but will not replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Reports claimed that Liverpool had interviewed O’Neil ahead of potentially becoming the Reds’ next head coach, having impressed in his short managerial career so far. Unsurprisingly, links to Arne Slot have dampened any speculation about the ex-AFC Bournemouth manager taking charge at Anfield, with the Englishman set to continue in his role at Molineux for the time being.
