‘I’m told…’ – Adam Pope shares Leeds transfer update following bid for another late signing

Leeds United’s initial bid for Gustavo Hamer was rejected, and they are unlikely to return with a bigger offer, according to Adam Pope.

According to a BBC journalist via X on August 26, the Whites will stop their pursuit of the Dutch midfielder after being turned down by Sheffield United.

According to The Star, on August 26, a £13 million bid was deemed “derisory” and refused, with Chris Wilder publicly stating that it was a “million miles away” from being sufficient.

Jayden Bogle joined Leeds from Bramall Lane earlier this summer.

After Jayden Bogle signed, Leeds United failed to complete the Blades deal.

This will be the second summer in a row that the club has attempted to recruit Hamer and been disappointed [Voetbal Rotterdam], with the Blades winning the race to get him from Coventry last year.

He would have been an immensely positive signing for a fans on edge after losing a slew of elite players.

Largie Ramazani has been signed to replace Crysencio Summerville, who departed for West Ham, while Manor Solomon’s loan from Tottenham is apparently poised to be completed, despite late interest from elsewhere [David Ornstein, 26 August].

The Israeli should assist cover for Georginio Rutter’s departure to Brighton, and the fast dalliance with a Hamer push could have been motivated by concerns that the Spurs signing would fall through.

But if the Sheffield United Player of the Season was expected to be a replacement for Glen Kamara, a substitute will need to be found quickly, with only four days until the window closes.

Daniel Farke appears to have acquired half of the four recruits he reportedly desired following Rutter’s departure, although the midfielder and full-back are still needed, as is a striker [Daily Mail, 24 August].

Max Aarons came much closer than Hamer to joining the Whites last summer, appearing for a physical before leaving to sign for Bournemouth, and he is back on the agenda today [Yorkshire Evening Post, 26 August].
