If transfer rumors are accurate, Sara signs and Gnonto stays, making this Leeds United’s ideal starting lineup

There is still work to be done in the transfer market as Leeds United hopes to make a return to the Premier League this season.

Leeds United is gradually intensifying its preparations for the 2024–25 Championship.

The Whites are attempting to recover from their play-off heartbreak from the previous season, when they lost to Southampton by a slim 1-0 margin at the final hurdle at Wembley Stadium. Daniel Farke still has work to do because Glen Kamara and Archie Gray have already left.

Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell, and Alex Cairns were added by United as part of an active transfer window to bolster their roster in anticipation of a very competitive campaign in the English second division.

Willy Gnonto’s future is still up in the air because star player Crysencio Summerville is almost certain to sign a contract to join West Ham United. Summerville will be challenging to replace after winning player of the year for the Championship the previous season with 21 goals in all competitions.

Prioritizing the acquisition of a new attacker, midfielder, and full-back before the transfer market closes at the end of August seems to be Leeds’ top priority; nevertheless, they must tread carefully in order to meet FFP requirements. Although Gray’s £40 million will have helped, the club still has risk given the presence of high earners like Junior Firpo, Georginio Rutter, and Patrick Bamford.

Links with Gabriel Sara of Norwich City and Fode Ballo-Toure of AC Milan, however, have rekindled optimism about the kind of player Elland Road could welcome with cash remaining. The match between Leeds and the recently promoted Portsmouth is sure to be exciting, and LeedsLive has speculated about how Leeds may line up in Farke’s ideal starting lineup.

The ideal starting lineup for Leeds United against Portsmouth is as follows: Meslier; James, Rutter, Gnonto; Piroe; Sara; Ampadu; Rodon, Struijk, and Ballo-Toure.
