Nottingham Forest are coming closer to safety following Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Sheffield United, and Paul Merson has predicted relegation.
Forest is getting closer to the finish line. With the win over the Blades, they now just need one more win to ensure their survival this season.
The Reds won on Saturday thanks to a brace from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ryan Yates’ maiden Premier League goal, which was complimented by Chris Wood afterwards.
Steve Cooper lost his job, while Nuno Espirito Santo faced a four-point deduction.
With two games remaining in the season, Merson has spoken out on what he believes will happen as Forest slip to the bottom of the table.
Paul Merson’s Nottingham Forest relegation prediction
Merson has projected who he believes will go down now that the details are becoming clearer.
Sheffield United has already been relegated, with Burnley behind by five points with two games remaining.
Merson believes Forest will just have enough to stay up, and that the three teams who fell last season will all be relegated.
He told Sky Sports: “I’ll be stunned if they (Nottingham Forest) lose.
“I’d be shocked now. Luton must gain four points, at least four points, without Forest receiving anything else.
Forest must get things out of Luton’s hands.
Forest may believe they are dangerously near to safety right now, and in all honesty, it may be over before they play on Saturday.
If West Ham beats Luton at the London Stadium, the Hatters will need a significant swing in goal difference to catch Forest.
Much as Merson says, it would be a huge surprise if Forest were relegated from here.
Forest must take the issue out of Luton’s hands by winning one more match on their own.
