When you think of Newcastle United, you frequently think of the club’s legendary strikers: Jackie Milburn, Hughie Gallacher, Malcolm Macdonald, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer, Callum Wilson, and, most recently, Alexander Isak.

Among the aforementioned athletes, one sticks out as an oddball, and that is Alexander Isak.

All of the other players wore the renowned Number 9; however, Les Ferdinand only had it for a short time before Alan Shearer arrived and stole it away.

However, since joining Newcastle, Isak has worn the number 14 on his back, whereas Callum Wilson continues to wear the number 9.

Alexander Isak could refuse the number 9 shirt when Callum Wilson leaves

Isak is satisfied with his number 14 shirt as it’s the number he wore when he signed for Borussia Dortmund, it’s also an iconic number with his hero Thierry Henry sporting the 14, and of course, at Newcastle, David Ginola is possibly the most famous number 14.

However, when questioned by Rob Lee on the Adopted Geordie podcast if he would take the number 9 in the future, Isak stated he would most likely continue with his current number.

“I would probably stay with 14, yeah.”

Rob Lee sought to persuade Isak that taking the number 9 had to happen.

Rob Lee then attempted to persuade him that the supporters would demand that he pick the number 9, rounding off a few names in the process.

“I think it’s a difficult one because I’ve been successful with 14, and it would probably not be an easy decision.”
If we thought swapping numbers would jinx him, let him retain it. The number on his back is less essential than consistently scoring goals.
