Despite Arne Slot’s appointment as manager, Tony Cascarino feels Liverpool could lose one key player this summer ‘really rapidly’.
Jurgen Klopp waved farewell to Liverpool fans in an emotional Q&A with comedian John Bishop earlier this week, as the German coach leaves the club where he has spent the last nine years.
With former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot joining Merseyside, the Dutchman will have a lot of pressure to try to replace the legacy created by the German.
Slot will be under pressure at Anfield, with the futures of key Liverpool players still uncertain, including right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has only 12 months left on his contract.
Cascarino on Trent.
Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino feels Real Madrid could come in for the Englishman, and Liverpool must do everything possible to keep the prominent 25-year-old.
“I think Trent is the big one for me,” Cascarino added. “Trent is in the final year of his contract, right? I believe he is in his final year. I believe he is in his final year as well. Trent, in my opinion, is a really valuable player.
“He’s in his final year. Trent, he is at an age where he could easily wind up in Madrid very fast, and that concerns me. I believe Slot would have to persuade him to stay with Liverpool because he is such a vital player.”
Alexander-Arnold’s future
Liverpool hopes to prolong Alexander-Arnold’s contract during the summer transfer window, according to HITC.
After breaking through at Liverpool in 2017, it seemed doubtful that Alexander-Arnold, the club’s vice captain, will decide to leave as the team prepares for a major overhaul this summer.
Tying down a player like Alexander-Arnold would be huge for Slot if he is to be a success at Anfield, and fans will be hoping that he commits sooner rather than later.
