‘I will carry them’… Paul Heckingbottom examines if Leeds United will win promotion this season

Leeds United defeated Sheffield Wednesday for the 12th time in 13 Championship games on Friday night, moving into second position – and Paul Heckingbottom believes they will be promoted.

Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto’s goals were enough for Leeds, as the impenetrable Welsh wall of Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon helped keep another clean sheet. A ninth clean sheet in twelve games.

Leeds has conceded three goals over that period. Our recent run of form and momentum is kicking in at the perfect time. An 11th victory in 12 league games since the beginning of the year. However, it was not all easy sailing.

Indeed, Wednesday definitely dominated the first half and should have scored from a corner kick if not for a crucial save by Illan Meslier. But Leeds continue to win and finish second.

Former Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom was a pundit on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, and he feels Leeds are generating the type of form that will lift them at the conclusion of the season.

“They’re in the form that will propel them into the Premier League.” No easy games. Today’s news revealed that numerous clubs are closing. In the second half, they demonstrated that they are the division’s leaders. Worthy winners.”

Paul Heckingbottom feels that Leeds United will be promoted.

Even before Wednesday’s win, Paul Robinson stated that he believes Leeds has what it takes to automatically advance. It was a fantastic win at Hillsborough against a team that has been in terrific form recently.

Danny Rohl believes Patrick Bamford’s goal was questionable since the clock ran 11 seconds past the four minutes of injury time, but that’s football. Two wonderful goals, three points, and promotion is getting closer.
