Alan Brazil has shared his thoughts on some “interesting” news about the Rangers takeover issue.
Rangers fans have definitely been put through the wringer this season, with a terrible domestic campaign on numerous fronts making a trophyless season all but likely before March even began.
The Gers controversially lost the League Cup final to Celtic on penalties and are 16 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Premiership, as well as departing the Scottish Cup in humiliating fashion.
Brazil has taken delight in Rangers’ struggle this season, but with changes looming at Ibrox, the Light Blues could reclaim Glasgow’s footballing supremacy.
49ers Enterprises’ takeover will ‘lift’ Rangers’ Brazil verdict.
Those changes at Ibrox are poised to come in the form of 49ers Enterprises taking a 51% interest in Rangers, with a deal reached in principle after months of negotiations between the two sides.
The 49ers’ addition promises to help Rangers reduce the gap on Celtic, and speaking on talkSPORT (5 March, 6:21am), Brazil anticipates a “interesting” future at Ibrox with the US group on board.
He said: “The major news, of course, is Rangers – it appears that [the takeover] will go through. That will be interesting, especially with the San Francisco 49ers investing money.
“That will give them a small boost. Of course, they also have part of Leeds. “I was told it’s advanced talks.”
Rangers set to retake the mantle from Celtic with 49ers on board.
Rangers’ acquisition by an organisation responsible for fellow athletic heavyweights such as Leeds United and the San Francisco 49ers will undoubtedly benefit them in the Scottish football environment.
The fundamental goal at Ibrox, regardless of their Europa League successes in recent seasons, is to finish above and beat Celtic by whatever means necessary, which hasn’t happened frequently enough.
A 3-0 victory against the Hoops at Ibrox in January threatened to put Rangers back in the Premiership title chase, but terrible results either side of the Old Firm proved to be the end of Philippe Clement.
As a result, when the 49ers take over in the summer, they will prioritize a managerial recruitment, which was likely in the works prior to Clement’s dismissal.
Rangers’ ownership does not guarantee an immediate remedy, but if a platform can be established to challenge Celtic on a regular basis, the Bears might soon be ruling the roost in Glasgow once more.
