Liverpool is slowly but steadily assembling a formidable side that fans will want to compete for the Premier League crown.
Federico Chiesa has agreed to join Liverpool, becoming the club’s second signing under Arne Slot after Giorgi Mamardashvili.
There could still be plenty of movement at Anfield before Deadline Day, with Liverpool instructed to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold despite interest from Real Madrid.
Fans may simply want one more signing in rather than another out, after losing Bobby Clark and Fabio Carvalho.
Despite the dearth of new signings, Liverpool has had a great start to life under Slot, winning their first two league games.
Tim Sherwood makes Liverpool claim after the Federico Chiesa sale.
Following 2-0 victories against Ipswich Town and Brentford, the Reds are joint-top of the Premier League standings after two games.
Tim Sherwood has forecast their prospects of winning the title, and the Sky Sports pundit has also commented on Chiesa’s forthcoming arrival.
“I think you need quality to come in,” Sherwood stated on Sky Sports. “Mo Salah and [Luis] Diaz are extremely talented wide players. Cody Gakpo is a unique player for them; he scores goals, threatens, and occasionally stands in the pocket.
“This man [Chiesa] has got speed to burn. He wants to go in behind teams, stretch them, and carry the ball forward. I believe he fits nicely with Liverpool’s style of play, whether under Jurgen Klopp or now under Slot.
“They want to move the ball out wide and have someone take them forward. I think he’s a great signing. It’s a deal; there’s no cost. Yes, they must pay him a considerable compensation.
What is Federico Chiesa’s injury history?
Liverpool fans will be ecstatic over the signing of Chiesa, who has 32 goals and 23 assists in 131 Juventus appearances.
Those came after 34 goals and 26 assists for Fiorentina, and the winger also has seven international goals and 51 caps.
There may be some concern about his injury record in recent seasons, which could explain why Liverpool was able to recruit him for just €13 million (£10.95 million) plus add-ons.
According to Sky Sports Premier League, Chiesa has been injured for 420 days and missed 80 matches during 2021/22.
Sherwood has addressed the problem, stating, “Everyone’s a waste of money if they’re sitting next to the manager or the chairman in the stands; there’s absolutely no use.
“They must be convinced that he will be fit. He is still young enough to leave an impression. I think he’s a great signing. I think Liverpool fans will be really excited.
“And there are enough games for him to have game time. There are so many games now, and Liverpool, from what I’ve seen early in the season, appears to be a happy camp, and I believe they’ll be competitive.
