On Friday, Leeds United will meet Leicester City in what is perhaps the biggest game of the Championship season thus far.
The Whites are nine points behind the Championship leaders, but a win would throw the race wide open and leave Leicester looking over their shoulders for the first time this season.
Leicester were defeated 2-1 by Middlesbrough last weekend, on the same day Leeds extended their winning streak to eight games, and defender Wout Faes was asked what that meant for this encounter.
Leeds defeated the Foxes in the return encounter in early November and are still unbeaten at Elland Road this season, making for an exciting contest between the two teams.
Faes, speaking to the BBC following Saturday’s loss to Boro, predicts a ‘great game’ and admits Leicester would have an extra desire to get three points after their previous defeat.
Faes promises ‘great’ Leeds clash
He answered, “You’ll get it, for sure, but I believe we need to focus on ourselves. I believe we have been performing exceptionally well; we are enjoying a fantastic season and winning frequently. If we keep doing a good job, we won’t have to look back, and I believe that is the main goal.
“We’ve got a week to prepare [for the game against Leeds United], so I believe we’ll know exactly what to do and how to approach it. It’s going to be an incredible game, and I’m looking forward to it.
“We have a huge game, and we’re winning, winning, winning. If we lose one, we definitely want to tweak things and get back to winning as soon as possible.
“Even if we had won or drawn against Middlesbrough, we would go with the same intensity, but now it makes maybe 1% extra to get the result there [at Elland Road] and get the three points.”
If Leeds, or either of the two sides in the chasing pack, are to have any hope of catching Leicester, Daniel Farke’s side will need three points.
Jeff Stelling suggested Leicester could be caught earlier this week, but their Championship record thus far shows the loss to Boro was a mere hiccup.
The encounter between the two teams earlier in the season was high-quality, and Friday night is expected to be no different, creating a lively environment.
