‘I never knew’: BBC pundit stunned by £34.5 million Tottenham Hotspur player vs. Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur, led by Ange Postecoglou, defeated Nottingham Forest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 this past Sunday. Ange Postecoglou’s team is now fourth and in a strong position to finish in the UEFA Champions League positions.

Spurs have accumulated 60 points from 31 matches. The North London team is level on points with Aston Villa, who are sixth after 32 games.

Manchester United trails well behind in sixth place, with 49 points from 31 games. I don’t think Erik ten Hag’s squad will finish in the top four or even fifth place in the Premier League this season.

Micky van de Ven, who was a rock at the back and scored one goal, was one of Tottenham’s standout performers versus Forest.

The £34.5 million (The Guardian) Netherlands international scored in the 52nd minute with what BBC Sport characterized as “a thunderous shot” from the edge of the penalty area.

Van de Ven has been a standout for Spurs this season. The 22-year-old centre-back has been a rock in defence, impressing everyone with his speed.

Garth Crooks startled by Tottenham Hotspur’s defense

Former Tottenham Hotspur attacker Garth Crooks has named Van de Ven to his Premier League Team of the Week.

The BBC Sport commentator was taken aback by how the Netherlands international center defense scored the goal against Forest.

Crooks wrote about Van de Ven for BBC Sport: “What a strike – the goalkeeper never moved.” We know he has pace and poise, but I never imagined Van de Ven could strike a ball like he did in the 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest. It was about as good as a two-touch finish you’d see. It was also a crucial goal for Spurs, whose inconsistency is their sole danger to a top-four finish.

“The goal settled Tottenham down enough to put an otherwise difficult Forest side to bed. Spurs return to the top four, with an exciting match against Arsenal coming up in three weeks. Both clubs require maximum points for very different reasons, yet failure for either club could jeopardize their most treasured goals this season.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters should be optimistic.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, in my opinion, should be positive about their team’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Spurs have won three of their previous five Premier League games and are performing better than Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side has won one and lost two of its past five league games.
