Arsenal will meet Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London Derby of 2025.
Both clubs are anxious for results. Arsenal have lost back-to-back games recently, while although Spurs have had a more good week in the cups, they are nothing near where they should be in the Premier League table.
Mikel Arteta’s side is presently second, while Ange Postecoglou’s men are ten places and 16 points behind their fierce North London rivals.
However, league position, form, and everything else are irrelevant in the derby, making it a tremendously intriguing match.
Paul Merson predicts the Arsenal vs Tottenham result.
Tottenham are full of confidence following two massive wins recently.
Spurs defeated Liverpool, probably the best team in the world, in the Carabao Cup before securing a hard-fought victory over Tamworth to advance to the next round.
In the same week, Arsenal dominated Newcastle and Manchester United in the cups, but lost both games.
Their confidence would have undoubtedly suffered, giving Tottenham a good chance of a win at the Emirates Stadium.
Regardless of what has happened in the last two games, Paul Merson believes Arsenal will win again when they face Tottenham on Wednesday night.
He stated on Sportskeeda, “I anticipate them to defeat Tottenham, but they sorely need a new centre-forward. Spurs are too up and down, and I don’t see how they’ll win here.
“A trophy would retain Ange Posteeoglou in her post. If they finish ninth in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup, where they hold a 1-0 lead heading into the semi-final second leg at Anfield, that is still good in my perspective.
“Some top teams could finish in the top four this season and not have a trophy, And this is Spurs by the way, they have never won anything!”
Merson’s prediction: Arsenal 3–1 Tottenham
Tottenham’s record at Emirates Stadium is awful.
Arsenal departed Highbury and relocated to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2006.
Since then, the Gunners have hosted Tottenham Hotspur 22 times in all competitions. There have been several notable games over the years. However, Spurs have had little success.
Tottenham has only won two games at the Emirates since Arsenal moved there over 19 years ago. Arsenal, on the other hand, have won 13.
Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals scored | Goals conceded | Win percentage | |
Tottenham’s record vs Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium | 22 | 2 | 7 | 13 | 28 | 52 | 9.09 per cent |
Despite their recent issues, Arsenal will head into the North London Derby on Wednesday night as favourites, and Arteta will want nothing less than a victory from his men.
Spurs will undoubtedly pose issues for the Gunners, but Postecoglou’s strategy will also allow Arsenal to attack them freely.
This should bring out the best in players like Martin Odegaard, who thrives when given room and time in the final third.
