Tim Sherwood spoke live on air on Leeds United’s chances of promotion to the Premier League, after Ipswich Town lost to Cardiff City on Saturday (9 March).
The Tractor Boys had the opportunity to leapfrog the Whites and Leicester City at the top of the Championship standings, but were defeated 2-1 by the Bluebirds in extra time.
Leeds United are only two points behind league leaders Leicester after defeating Sheffield Wednesday on Friday, March 8, and have taken a vital step towards promotion.
Sherwood spoke live on Sky Sports News on Saturday (9 March, 1:20pm): “I believe the current top two will rise. I hope Leeds does, especially given their attendance. They are really wonderful at Elland Road and are extremely well-supported.
“It was one of my favourite playgrounds. I just believe that with their home advantage and the support they receive both at home and away, they will be able to outperform Ipswich and Southampton.”
Can Leeds United win promotion back to the Premier League?
Leeds’ future appears to be in their own hands, particularly after Ipswich stumbled on the Cardiff banana peel on Saturday.
The Foxes may face a difficult task against an in-form Hull City team. A loss for Enzo Maresca’s team would give Leeds an advantage.
Of course, Daniel Farke has been in this position before, having won the Championship with Norwich City, and will be confident in his ability to lead Leeds to victory.
The German has done an incredible job since taking over at Elland Road last summer, transforming the stadium into a fortress and yet to lose a home league match.
The Whites have set their sights on regaining their Premier League status. It is now totally under their hands, with Ipswich failing to get three points in the Welsh capital, although it might come down to the wire.
