Except for an unexpected slip-up against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool has a perfect record in all competitions under Arne Slot.
The choice to appoint the Dutchman as Jurgen Klopp’s successor has proven to be a masterstroke, with the Reds winning four of their five Premier League games, as well as one each in the UEFA Champions League and the EFL Cup.
The approaching weeks, however, may prove to be the most difficult for Slot, as Liverpool plays every three days in all competitions.
As the Reds prepare to travel to the West Midlands to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, Paul Merson believes Slot might secure another comfortable victory.
Paul Merson anticipates an easy Liverpool win against Wolves.
Merson praised Liverpool for returning from their defeat against Forest in style, with convincing victories against Bournemouth, AC Milan, and West Ham United in their next three games.
“I was quite critical of Liverpool after their loss to Nottingham Forest,” wrote Merson in his Sportskeeda blog.
“However, in retrospect, I have to give them some leeway because it was after the international break and many of their important players had returned from all of their travel.
“They’ve bounced back in style by destroying AC Milan and then winning against Bournemouth last weekend.”
While acknowledging Wolves’ threat, the Arsenal legend believes Liverpool will achieve a simple 3-1 victory away from home.
Merson continued, “Wolves are a funny squad. I thought they played brilliantly against Newcastle, scored a world-class goal, but lost. They must win quickly, but I can only see Liverpool winning here.”
How Liverpool can line up against Wolves.
Most of Liverpool’s key players, including Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Luis Diaz, had much-needed rest against West Ham, but are expected to return to the starting lineup at Molineux.
Slot is expected to continue with the team that defeated Bournemouth 3-0 in their last league meeting, though he does have a bit of a selection dilemma in attack.
Mohamed Salah is a lock for the right wing, but with Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Diaz scoring in recent weeks, it’s unclear who gets the nod up front.
