Following the breakdown of leave talks, a Nottingham Forest player is poised to remain at the City Ground.
To comply with Profit and Sustainability criteria, the East Midlanders must trade in the transfer market, as do all Premier League clubs.
They’ve previously offloaded 14 players and were in talks to sell a 15th, but it’s just been revealed that a deal has fallen through, with the club’s boss saying they couldn’t agree with Nottingham Forest.
Jonjo Shelvey to Caykur Rizespor deal is off.
Jonjo Shelvey, described as ‘special’ by the Daily Mail, spent last season on loan at Caykur Rizespor, and the Turkish club was in talks to recruit him on a permanent basis this summer.
Rizespor were willing to pay £3.4 million for the 32-year-old, but Forest refused to lower their asking price, resulting in talks breaking down.
“It doesn’t look like he (Shelvey) will be returning to the club,” Rizespor manager Ilhan Palut told Sporx.
“We make plans without him. I don’t think we could find common ground. “We have other plans.”
Forest will now have to explore for other suitors, as he is clearly not part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans.
Nottingham Forest should resume negotiations.
If no other suitors come in for Shelvey, Forest should lower their asking price and accept Rizespor’s offer.
This removes the risk of losing him on a free transfer in a year, which appears to be the most likely scenario at this point, unless a Championship team takes him on loan.
