Kelvin Wilson is unsure whether one Nottingham Forest player’s poor form is due to a falling out with someone at the club.
The Reds have secured their Premier League status for the third consecutive season, thanks to a 2-1 victory over Burnley on Sunday.
Ultimately, Forest got a touch lucky this season, with Luton, Burnley, and Sheffield United all suffering after promotion the year before.
Forest had a somewhat successful summer, but a few players failed to make an impact once more, and Wilson has been discussing one of them.
What Kelvin Wilson stated about Ibrahim Sangare
The situation with Sangare is fascinating, and Forest requires a solution.
He was the man signed on transfer deadline day, purportedly to play defensive midfield for the Forest club.
However, Sangare has had a tough season after joining Forest from PSV for £30 million.
He’s spent the second part of the season on the fringes, with his last 90 minutes coming in March against Luton.
Clearly, Forest will not want to cut their losses on Sangare unless absolutely necessary, and Nuno Espirito Santo has a quandary.
Wilson, a former Reds defender, has been talking what has to happen with Sangare, but he is unsure if there has been a fallout.
He told the Forest Focus podcast: “With Sangare, I think he’s a good player, a really good player, but for whatever reason, it hasn’t worked out for him at Forest.
“I’m not sure if it’s the player’s style, or if he’s had a disagreement with someone. He resembles a shell of a player.
“He’s a top-tier player, and you don’t lose that easily. You either work to find a way to get the most out of him, or if he isn’t in their plans, you have to let him go.
“Ultimately, you play either him or Yates; you do not play both of them. He chose Yates, and I believe they made the correct decision given their circumstances.
“Sangare is more laid back, he likes to play a bit more than Yates and I don’t think Forest are at the stage where they can play like that.”
Forest needs a clear plan with Sangare.
Wilson’s comments about Forest midfielder Sangare are spot on.
The Reds have a conundrum, and it is critical that management spend the summer devising a strategy for Sangare.
Given that he cost £30 million, it seems doubtful that the club will let him go without giving him a chance.
At 26 years old, the athlete still has time on his side, but he needs to start displaying a little more.
As a defensive midfielder, he should start dominating games more, and a style change may be required to suit him.
Sangare had some bright moments during his first season at Forest.
He led the team to a 3-1 victory over Newcastle and contributed to one of the goals in a 3-2 loss to West Ham.
However, the positives have been far too few, and perhaps he can really kick on next season and silence the boo boys.
