Destiny Udogie, a Tottenham Hotspur defender, has disclosed that he is playing a strange role under boss Ange Postecoglou.
The 21-year-old defender joined Tottenham in August 2022 for roughly €18 million, but was loaned out to Italian club Udinese. The defender joined his new colleagues at the start of the season and has since established himself as a valuable asset for Tottenham. His performances for the North London club have been superb, but his recent revelations will undoubtedly surprise fans.
He has thrived in his position at Tottenham. He is frequently given the leeway to get forward and join the assault. As a result, the Italian has scored twice and assisted three times in all competitions.
Udogie admitted in an interview that he is doubtful whether the job at Tottenham is right for him, and that he is not used to playing that style. However, he is adjusting nicely, and the defense technique he learned in Italy is definitely benefiting him now.
“But the way of defending that I learned in Italy is definitely helping me,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I’m not sure if this is the appropriate part for me; I’m not used to it. But I’m often there, and I’m settling in.”
The 21-year-old has proven to be a competent defender, but his offensive abilities are equally impressive. He has the potential to be an exceptional modern fullback, and Tottenham will hope he can continue to improve and produce at a high level on a continuous basis.
Perhaps the defender expected a more cautious position at his new club. But there is no denying that he is thriving in his current position.
