Graham Smyth, a Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, has ruled out one of Leeds United’s prospective winger targets for the summer.
The Whites are expected to be in the market for new wide receivers in the coming weeks, with both Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto looking elsewhere.
Following the club’s failure to earn promotion, the two promising young players have been identified as the most likely departures from Elland Road.
Summerville is desired by a number of Premier League clubs, including Brighton, but despite claims, no deal appears to be in the works.
Meanwhile, Gnonto has been connected with a return to Italy, and Nottingham Forest has been rumored to make a move, but this is premature.
Smyth discusses whether Jaidon Anthony could return to Leeds.
According to Athletic journalist Nancy Froston, if either Summerville or Gnonto leaves, Leeds could look to sign FC Basel’s Liam Millar.
Of course, if they both leave, Leeds will have three wingers departing this summer, with Jaidon Anthony’s loan stay ending.
Dan James is the only other designated winger in the current roster, though Brenden Aaronson and Georginio Rutter are likely capable of playing there.
Given Anthony’s limited playing time, it will be fascinating to see if Daniel Farke wants to start the next season with four wingers again. He started only two league games this season.
Andoni Iraola has stated that he would like to take another look at him during Bournemouth’s pre-season, but that they would be willing to sell at the appropriate price.
Speaking on the current episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Smyth hinted that Leeds will not make an attempt to get him back.
He stated, “We know they are looking at wingers and will have to look at wingers because they have lost one; Jaidon Anthony has gone back and I don’t think he will return to Leeds next season.”
“I would be extremely astonished if that were the case since he wants to play football and Daniel Farke hasn’t actually played him. “It wasn’t the best season for him.”
What has Anthony stated regarding his future with Leeds?
Anthony appears to have hinted on his official Instagram account that he will not be back to Elland Road soon after the season ends.
The 24-year-old, who Mateo Joseph described as a ‘really fantastic player’ following his two assists at Chelsea, instead expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play for Leeds.
He wrote, “It’s an honour to wear this jersey! It’s no secret that this has been the most difficult year of my life, but your support has helped me get through!
“It wasn’t the ending we had hoped for, but playing for this club allowed me to meet some incredible individuals and make some unforgettable moments! “Thank you, Leeds fans; you are something special.”
